The debut of the double-flap bag revolutionized fashion history. Until the first bag appeared, these were carried by hand and were cumbersome. The double-flap bag was not only a stylistic revolution but also the first bag with a strap that made it easier to carry. After its debut, it soon became a sign of social status for women to carry a bag over the shoulder.
The first Chanel handbag was introduced in 1929. Although the early models had a flap, it wasn't until 1955 that Chanel realized the advantages of a bag with a strap. From then on, the model became known and popular as the classic Double Flap Bag.
With Karl Lagerfeld, the Double Flap Bag took on a new look in the early 1980s. The understated Mademoiselle clasp gave way to the eye-catching CC clasp, transforming the Classic Flap Bag into an iconic piece. The hardware is 24-carat gold-plated and exceptionally durable. The Classic Flap Bag is produced in various sizes and is available as a Double or Single Flap, depending on the format. The Single Flap is no longer produced today. The lining is no longer just classic burgundy; the bag is available in many colors and signature materials, such as tweed.
