We Love: A rare Hermès find. The 1940s HAC Birkin is extremely rarely produced. Textured Clemence leather in "Navy." Finished with palladium hardware.

About: The HAC, also known as Haut à Courroies, means "high belt" in French. Designed in the 1800s, it predates the Birkin bag. The original purpose of the Hermès HAC bag was to carry riding equipment such as saddles and boots.
Émile-Maurice Hermès designed the HAC Bag after being inspired by the handbags worn by cowboys in Argentina. Production began in 1892 and became an important part of history, as the Kelly Bag and Birkin Bag were based on the HAC Bag's details.
And that's why the HAC Bag and the Birkin Bag look so similar.
The HAC bag is undoubtedly a piece of Hermès history. The bag is also not easy to find, as supply is limited and demand is just as high as for the Birkin bag. The price difference between the HAC and the Birkin bag is not that great.
Also known as Vachette Grainee des Ardennes, this leather is one of Hermès' most durable leathers and is perfect for bags that will be used frequently, as it is both water- and scratch-resistant. The processed, thick-grained leather retains its shape very well, but the dyes may fade over time. Ardennes is no longer produced by Hermès.
