Gabrielle by CHANEL
The Gabrielle Bag was designed by Karl Lagerfeld and first presented in 2017. As a tribute to Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, it combines tradition and contemporary design.
Shape & Silhouette
Lagerfeld drew inspiration for the design from virtual reality headsets and vintage binoculars. This influence is particularly evident in the bag's striking, slightly trapezoidal silhouette and its robust base, which, viewed from below, resembles a pair of virtual reality headsets. While the lower section of the Gabrielle is clearly structured, the upper part remains soft and supple. The bag rests comfortably against the body without feeling stiff.
For many Chanel enthusiasts, this design was initially unfamiliar. The Gabrielle doesn't follow a classic Chanel silhouette like the Timeless Flap or the Boy Bag. It appears sportier, more immediate, and less formal. This is precisely what made it a statement from the very beginning.
A key feature is the shoulder strap. The combination of leather and chain details, along with the three-tone hardware in ruthenium, gold, and silver, gives the bag exceptional versatility. It can be effortlessly paired with a wide variety of styles and jewelry.
The Gabrielle line
The Gabrielle bag is also part of a larger design line at CHANEL. In addition to the iconic hobo bag, other variations have been released, including a shopper bag, a backpack, as well as smaller leather goods and flap bags in the Gabrielle design. Despite the different shapes, the overall look of the Gabrielle line remains consistent.
The Gabrielle Bag is no longer in production. This very fact gives it greater significance as a modern collector's item and as an expression of a bolder, more experimental phase for the company.
Crossbody with V-strap
The doubled chain is distributed across both shoulders. This distributes the weight of the bag evenly, and the chain also acts as a decorative detail, just like wearing a necklace.

Worn in a classic style, the Gabrielle dress looks relaxed and uncomplicated.
Crossbody
Worn close to the body, it becomes functional and suitable for everyday use.
Backpack
Worn as a backpack, the Gabrielle becomes sportier and especially practical.
Crossbody with twisted chain
The twisted chain adds a subtle detail and changes the look of the bag.
Crossbody with double straps
Here there are 3 chains. As with the V-strap, one of the chains serves both as a decorative detail and as a body chain.
