Rei Kawakubo is the legendary founder of Comme des Garçons and the Libra no one expects.
She is arguably the most radical form this sign can take. While others seek balance in symmetry, Kawakubo finds it in deliberate rupture: asymmetry, holes, bumps, black on black.
When she first showed in Paris with Comme des Garçons in 1981, people were shocked and called her collection "Hiroshima Chic"—the tattered fabrics, the lack of a waist, no Western silhouette. But it was not an attack on beauty; it was a new definition of it. Kawakubo designs based on a feeling, a word, an idea, and the form follows. "I want to make clothes that have never existed before," she says, and that is precisely the Libran truth behind her rebellion: she seeks balance in a world she has created herself.

The most important moment of Libra season begins on October 3: Venus, the ruler of Libra, turns retrograde and remains so until well into November. For no other sign is this more significant.
