LOUIS VUITTON × TAKASHI MURAKAMI
The collaboration between Louis Vuitton and the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami is among the most influential partnerships of the early 2000s. It began in 2002 at the initiative of the then Creative Director Marc Jacobs. Just one year later, the first collection was released, in which Murakami reinterpreted the house's classic monogram.
The result was the so-called Monogram Multicolor: The well-known LV motif appears in numerous colors on a light or black background, giving the traditional pattern a completely new visual energy.
Design & Details
The bag is based on the multicolor monogram that Takashi Murakami developed for Louis Vuitton in the early 2000s. The classic LV pattern appears in many different colors on light canvas.
The long leather fringes around the top of the bag are particularly striking. They come in various colors and are combined with small beads and charms.
Natural-colored vachetta leather forms the top and bottom of the bag. Gold-tone studs and hardware echo typical Louis Vuitton details.
The Murakami era
Today, many designs from the Murakami period are considered highly sought-after vintage pieces. They represent a time when luxury fashion and contemporary art became more closely intertwined and continue to shape the image of fashion in the early 2000s.
