Chanel Paris-Dallas, The Métiers d'Art Show That Rode Into Fashion History
A Texan rodeo in the middle of Dallas, hay bales, classic cars, and cowboy hats.
With the Métiers d'Art 2013/14 Paris Dallas collection, Chanel transformed Fair Park into a tribute to the American West and to Coco Chanel's close ties to Texas.
The show marked an important chapter in Karl Lagerfeld's career. Coco Chanel had visited Texas in 1957 to accept the Neiman Marcus Award, one of the fashion world's most significant honors. Decades later, Lagerfeld revisited this history and reinterpreted it in his unmistakable style.
The Collection
The collection combined the rugged charm of the Wild West with the sophistication of French couture. Western elements were not presented as costumes, but rather interpreted luxuriously and modernly.
Signature Looks: Embroidered cowboy jackets, fringes, wide belts, cowboy boots, and large hats met elegant Chanel silhouettes.
Designs: Tweed jackets were combined with leather details; ponchos, patchwork, and Navajo-inspired patterns gave the collection its unmistakable character.
Materials: Tweed, suede, denim, leather, and elaborately embroidered fabrics showcased the exceptional craftsmanship of the Métiers d'Art ateliers.
