Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Box: Grandma Concetta
Available exclusively by appointment in selected Dolce & Gabbana boutiques, the Dolce Box is one of the fashion house's most iconic creations. Each bag is elaborately handcrafted and hand-painted, making every piece unique.
A homage to bella Sicilia, captured in an extraordinary handbag.
Our Bag: Nonna Concetta
This model, Nonna Concetta, was first presented as part of the Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The structured wooden construction is artfully hand-painted and adorned with delicate floral details, gold-coloured fittings, and elegant python leather accents.
Lemons are among Sicily's most famous symbols and reflect the brand's deep connection to Domenico Dolce's homeland. The name also tells a story: Nonna means grandmother in Italian, while Concetta is one of the traditional Sicilian female names. As early as 2015, Dolce & Gabbana dedicated three collector dolls to the names Concetta, Immacolata, and Addolorata.
From Vanity Case to Dolce Box
The Dolce Box was introduced in 2013 and is based on classic vanity cases. Elegant travel cases with a solid construction and padlock. The original design was crafted from inlaid wood and inspired by an 18th-century piece of furniture.
Its solid construction and handcrafted details distinguished it from classic leather handbags and made it one of the house's signature designs. Even the padlock bears this characteristic: a small orange blossom adorns every single Dolce Box.
Craftsmanship
Each Dolce Box is crafted in Dolce & Gabbana’s Italian ateliers, combining traditional craftsmanship with creative experimentation.
Hand-carved wood, elaborately painted surfaces, exotic leather, intricate embroidery, and three-dimensional appliqués make each collection an expression of the highest artisanal precision.
The House Behind It
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana founded the fashion house in 1985.
Domenico draws his inspiration from his Sicilian roots, Stefano from graphic design and contemporary culture. Together, they developed a design language featuring decorative details, high-quality materials, and Italian craftsmanship. This same design language can also be found in every Nonna Concetta.
