The cardigan is from Karl Lagerfeld's 2006 collections, in which he reinterpreted the iconic Chanel bouclé. This material originally goes back to Coco Chanel, who introduced bouclé in the 20th century to create comfortable, structured, yet elegant clothing as an alternative to stiff corsets. Lagerfeld took up this heritage and translated it into a more modern, lighter knit version: Instead of classic tweed jackets, soft knitwear pieces were created that have the same iconic look but offer more mobility and suitability for everyday wear. The bouclé structure remains central. It gives the cardigan depth, texture, and recognition.
