The choice of material was a break with the prevailing fashion of the time, which mainly consisted of heavy fabrics such as velvet and silk. A single coat can take up to 200 hours to make. CHANEL tweed coats are not only a fashion statement but also a symbol of women's emancipation. Coco Chanel wanted to give women more freedom and ease of movement with her designs, and the tweed coat was an important part of this. By choosing a fabric more traditionally worn by men, she created a garment that enabled women to present themselves more confidently in the male-dominated world of business and politics.
