The HERMÈS Birkin 40 Retourne in Clemence leather and the color Prune combines iconic design with a clearly functional size. The Birkin shape originated in the 1980s from a chance encounter between Jane Birkin and Jean-Louis Dumas, then CEO of Hermès, on a flight, and has since become one of the Maison's most iconic silhouettes. It was originally designed in size 40 – conceived as a generously sized travel bag – and thus forms the original Birkin line. To this day, this size represents volume, everyday practicality, and a calm, understated presence.

This version is crafted from Clemence leather, distinguished by its subtly textured, grained surface and pleasant suppleness. The Prune color, a muted, deep red with violet undertones, lends the bag an elegant yet understated appeal that can be combined in a variety of ways.

The reverse-stitched seam construction, where the seams are turned inwards, creates softer lines and a more relaxed design without compromising stability. In size 40, this model offers generous storage space, thus reviving the original concept of the Birkin as a travel bag – ideal for longer days, weekends, or situations where more volume is specifically required.

The top handle is designed for carrying in the hand or on the forearm. Inside, a functional layout features a large main compartment and flat side pockets, allowing for clear organization of essentials.
