We Love: The Hermès Bolide 35 in classic brown Clemence leather 

About: Emile-Maurice Hermès designed this tote bag for his wife in 1923, intended for an automobile event. The French fashion house replaced the old metal clasps and added a zippered compartment for the first time in Hermès' history. The Bolide is named after the fastest cars of the 20th century. In 1916, while traveling in North America, Hermès came across numerous automobile factories. One thing in particular caught his eye—on the top of a fabric roof, he saw the zipper mechanism and immediately acquired the patent for Hermès handbags. He added this technology to the 1923 handbags, and thus the Bolide was born.
