The Sand By The Sea Treasure was designed by Karl Lagerfeld for the Spring/Summer 2019 collection and presented at a beach-themed runway show, which was one of his last major collections before his death in February 2019. Lagerfeld was known for transforming the Grand Palais in Paris into spectacular stage sets, and this collection was no exception: an entire beach was built inside the Palais, complete with sand, waves, and beach chairs. The Sand By The Sea Treasure is a direct reflection of this staging and one of the more playful pieces the house ever launched.

The Treasure is made of transparent PVC with black lambskin details and carries real sand in its double-walled sides, a detail that surprises at first glance and, upon closer inspection, is exactly what you would expect from Lagerfeld. Gold-toned hardware, a combinable chain and leather shoulder strap, a CC turn-lock closure on the flap, and a patch pocket on the back complete this Treasure. As it is a runway piece from a limited season, it is now exclusively available on the secondary market and is considered by collectors to be one of the most iconic and idiosyncratic Chanel pieces in recent history.
