Coincidentally, she was seated next to Jean-Louis Dumas, then head of Hermès. After a brief discussion, she sketched her dream bag: larger than the Kelly, smaller than a suitcase. Dumas brought the sketch to life, thus creating the iconic Birkin Bag, which Jane later received in return for her name.
