The house of BVLGARI was founded in Rome in 1884 by the Greek silversmith Sotirios Voulgaris — the name, in its characteristic Latin script, is a deliberate homage to ancient Roman culture. The house developed its distinctive style from the 1930s onwards, when the founder's sons took over leadership and began combining gold with colorful, generously set gemstones. In the golden years of La Dolce Vita, the 1950s and 60s, this bold, color-intensive design language fully unfolded and has shaped the image of the house to this day.
