In February 1955, Coco Chanel designed a bag that for the first time allowed women to have their hands free. The original was named 2.55, after the month and year of its creation. When Karl Lagerfeld took over as creative director of the house in 1983, he replaced the Mademoiselle clasp with the now world-famous double CC turn-lock and added the additional inner flap, which eventually became the Double Flap Treasure. One of the most charming myths surrounding the history of this Treasure is that Coco Chanel used the discreet zippered compartment under the outer flap to store love letters. To this day, each individual Treasure requires over 15 hours and 180 steps in the house's ateliers.

The Treasure in the large version is crafted from soft lambskin in classic black, giving it a particularly supple feel that is distinctly different from the more structured Caviar version. The silver-colored chain with interwoven leather and the CC turn-lock are made of silver hardware.
